Selecting The Correct Bike Is Not Easy

Many different means of evaluating a bike make purchasing a new one difficult. Choosing their next bicycle is difficult, even for professional riders. The truth is that there are a lot of things to think about when buying a bicycle. You need to think about safety, comfort, what the bike will be used for, how often the bicycle will be used, where the bicycle will be used and, if we’re being honest: style. Keeping on top of all the new ideas coming out with bicycling, as well as choosing between the old options, makes choosing a bike hard. Simply apply this test as you go to get your new bike.

One thing you can consider when choosing a bike is whether or not your feet can rest flat on the floor while you are sitting so you can stop yourself. Some experts, however, say that this is not a good idea. They state the best way to choose a bike is to leave a few inches between your feet and the ground so you can have a more comfortable ride. The seat will usually sit a little low and too close to the crossbar if you are able to bend your knees while your feet are on the ground and your backside is on the bicycle’s seat. If this is happening, when you start to pedal the bike then your knees are going to come up too high.

Do you require more features on the new bike? If you are using your bicycle as your primary form of transportation you might want to consider whether you will need things like baskets to help you transport goods. Will you ever carry a child on your bike? If so, you will need to find a bicycle that can safely support a baby seat. How about towing something behind the bike? Then you’ll need a bike that can support a trailer’s weight.

It is important that you allow adequate room between you and the crossbar. When you choose your bike, adjust the seat up a few inches from the crossbar and then sit on the bike. Make certain you can still place both feet flatly on the ground. Each type of bike requires different clearances. A touring bike for example will require around 1", perhaps slightly more. With a mountain bike however you will need some more, 3 inches should suffice. When you are searching for the appropriate cycling bicycle to suit you, there are a number of factors to consider. Do you want to ride your bicycle every day or do you see yourself only riding it once in a while? What seat height gives you the most comfortable ride? Do you feel more at ease with your feet see here just above the ground as you sit on the seat, or would you rather that your feet sit flat when you are at rest? You will want to answer all of these important questions, as you make your bicycle selection.
